yet another iPod cozy

my name is sandra and i sold out and got an ipod (courtesy of tivo points, though, not actual ca$h). i originally had a creative zen micro -- in TURQUOISE-- which i loved, but i am a big book-on-tape fan and audible wouldn't work on the zen micro. also marco has been threatening to take away my apple powerbook since i hardly ever use it, so i gotta start using it and the ipod made the logical choice for the mac.

the Boo Boo Sweater

i made this sweater as a part of my summer knitting resolution. its loosely based on the SnB Howl, but i didn't like the fact that the Howl had a cowl, so i just made it roll-necked. the reason its called a boo boo sweater is 'cause i made it for my little boo boo, rusty, and 'cause i made a lot of boo boos making it.

More Photos for you!

a little preview of my newest photos (and my newest knitted item):

today i really got a chance to look through the last few month's photos and sized them for the web. i updated a BUNCH of albums in the gallery. check them out:

Hope you like 'em!

School's out for summer (or until June 20th)

FINALLY this semester has ended. i've been so stressed out that i've been eating badly and sleeping even worse for the last two weeks. since friday, however, i've been working on the sleeping and tomorrow begins the healthy eating (sort of). it has not all been in vain, however, 'cause i ended up with some nice final projects and hopefully some even nicer grades :)

anyhow, to begin my summer knitting rush i've already started and finished the kittyville hat, which was relatively quick and fun. here is some pics:

here it is, pre-ears:

here it is, post-putting-on-of-ears. they're kinda hard to see, and they're a bit small but they are kinda cute:

typophile

a typophile is someone who loves type and the visual communication of the written word.

so i am in the throes of semester projects and am currently creating and typesetting a series of books on typography icons of three different time periods. i am happy to say i'm actually having fun at this now, and since i was really interested in screen typefaces and how they interact with computer users, i was happy to discover the work of matthew carter, who i really didn't know much about before. it turns out he was the type designer to create verdana and georgia, both microsoft fonts specifically created for the screen.

there are some interesting articles out there that discuss the virtues of each of the two fonts.

you need to download these fonts to properly view many sites out on the web, including this one.

mom's day!

for mother's day we went to my Tia Lourdes's house. it was fun because we ate a LOT (and that's always fun) and 'cause my wacky mom got everyone to play silly games for prizes. for all the mom's day photos, visit the sandrisuperstar gallery (specifically Mom's Day 2005).

one of the things i gave my mom for mother's day is the SnB Loopy Velez Cowl. i made it with Lion Brand Suede in Fuschia (altho it looks more like a deep orchid to me). here she is modeling it for me :)

the knit bunny

this is a knit bunny i recently finished from the famous bunny pattern at heartstrings fiber arts. my bunny's butt is wayyy bigger than its supposed to be 'cause i made the head too small, but oh well this is him. i call him frank.

for summer break

i have a summer break coming up only in two weeks... woo hoo. so happy!!! i'm kinda burnt out on school right now so the break is very welcome. anyhow, my plan is to knit. and knit. and watch tv. and knit. and here is what i'm going to make:
  • a shrug - i've been dying to make a shrug but have had no luck in starting. this will be my first project.
  • a skully sweater from stitch n' bitch (SnB) - i want to make a sweater but something more challenging than the original boatneck that i made for my first sweater... so i'm going to learn intarsia and make those skulls
  • more bunnies - my first bunny was kind of disproportionate so i want to make the next one prettier.
  • data center fingerless gloves - these are a promise to marco to match his server room hat. he helped me out with a project and as a thank you, i'm going to knit him some gloves that will keep his hands toasty at the data center
  • the branching out scarf from knitty.com - i've been meaning to try lacey stuff
  • the SnB kittyville hat - a quick hat for fun :) and with ears!
  • a doggy sweater for rusty of unknown pattern origin - maybe i'll just make it up!
