type as image

one of my school projects is to convert a haiku of my own creation into an image using only letterforms. a previous teacher gave our class a link to a website that did just this and it was totally inspiring for this project. if you're interested in the website, it's here.

my haiku for said project:

the big goldfish
swims happily
in the same water

my inspiration for said haiku: Oscar, the goldfish

stay tuned for the resulting type as image project.

but strangely enough...

*click the pic for a larger view*

this is not an ugly scarf, despite the fact that i'm using the ugly hat's same yarn.

i've joined a new swap where knitters are paired up with sew-ers for a sewed thing/knitted thing trade. my partner wants a scarf and hat set and showed me a picture of a scarf she saw on craftster... it was so beautiful that i instantly wanted to learn the stitch. so i'm making this scarf with that banana berry red heart multi that i had lying around. this is NOT the scarf I will be sending my partner for it is bright neon colors and i don't want to scare her to death! it's just a project to get used to the stitch before i start hers. and look, the variegated yarn is self-striping and it wasn't even on purpose!!!

craft swap!

i loooove Craftster because i get so much crafty knowledge concentrated in one little (ok, huge) forum. i especially love the knitter's forum (of course). anyhow, crafster members often organize themed swaps where you send a crafted item to a partner and someone sends you something else. my very first swap was a Head/Neck swap where we had to make stuff for our partner's head/neck... this is the stuff that i sent my partner erin (giggleycraft) : included was a drop stitch scarf, a kerchief (Shocking Pink Coif pattern from knitty) and a small dragonfly barette in erin's favorite colors of purple and green. can't wait to see what i get in the swap!

ugly hat

this is a truly ugly hat. the colors are so obnoxious, i loved them instantly! the yarn is red heart multi, a super cheap acrylic yarn that comes in delicious colors like this one -- banana berry! unfortunately it is not the most super comfy yarn but i heard that if you wet it and dry it in the dryer with the fabric softener, it comes out super soft.... woo hoo! must try that this weekend.

the gollum poem

The rock and pool, is nice and cool, so juicy sweet.
Our only wish, to catch a fish, so juicy sweet!

ahhh almost over...

it's been such a long time since i just sat down and wrote a bit here.

it's getting to be the end of my summer vacation because I start summer school this coming monday. i am taking the next typography class in the series of my program. i'm glad i'm going to get back into it, too, because i don't want to lose what i've learned up until now. on the other hand, typography classes at the academy tend to be pretty hard-core so that's going to seriously curb my knitting and my laying-aboutedness.

also... i think i'm so lucky to have a husband who seriously understands the need to wind down from the last semester. when i say i've taken the month off, i mean i've taken the month off. and he's pretty great about it. i've been just letting my brain recover because last semester was a real challenge and my motivation was pretty low but now that it is a week before school starts, i'm going to be preparing both my stuff and myself for the coming of typography...

the HALF-SKEIN wonder

this is the One Skein Wonder shrug by glampyre again. it was such a fast knit that i made a red one. i only used 1/2 a caron simply soft skein, hence the half-skein wonder name :)

the one skein wonder

i just finished the one skein wonder pattern by glampyre. this is my requisite shrug that i made for the summer and it only took me one full day (last night and this morning). it is made with cascade 220 which has quickly become my FAVORITE yarn! i think i might make it in two or three other colors! (sorry for the boob shot!)

the incredible ribbon top

this is the end (FINALLY) of the incredible ribbon top. i have frogged it twice and dropped stitches and spent HOURS getting it back on track. actually i took this picture when i thought i was done but i felt it was too short so i ripped up the end and started another couple of inches. now i'm DONE!!!
