my new hat & my old snowman (now melted)

as i have previously mentioned, i have been knitting up a storm since getting to michigan... so far, i've made three hats, a panta, and a dayflower scarf. since most of them are swap items, i'm not going to post them, but here is one i made for my cold head :)

also, here is one of my very first snowman ever. i'm amazed at all the snow here, since i've never seen so much of it in one place! he's melted now but we'll always remember the good times.

post christmas recovery

we finally made it to michigan and through christmas. we have been eating a lot since we got here and entertaining a lot too (dinners with friends and family). i'm pretty sure we'll just take it easy from now on too (i hope) since both of us are pretty much getting sick; me from a headcold and marco is just not feeling well. i miss everyone in california :( and especially my mom and the booger, otherwise known as rusty. i wish i had pictures to show of the snow and us (and ALL the stuff i've been knitting) but i'm on dialup and it's such a hassle... maybe tomorrow though, 'cause we found a free internet connection coffee shop that i'm pretty sure we'll go to tomorrow.

stuck

it's 5:00 am california time. except i'm not in california. i'm in texas. i'm at dallas/ft. worth airport and i'm on standby. and its the holidays. and i get the feeling we're going to be here for a loooong time.

due to bad weather, we left san francisco airport yesterday three hours late. and then we missed our connecting flight to detroit. american airlines then said we could go to a hotel and gave us a voucher. so we were like, whatever, except that we had to wake up at 3:00 am CA time. turns out we actually had to pay for our hotel (a total shock, airlines have always paid for hotel rooms)and we woke up super early for our 6:45 flight (TX time) and guess what? even though we confirmed the flight last night, they informed us at the gate that we were on standby and there was only one seat left. there was no way we were splitting up so we're going to sit here for four more hours until we get on the next flight. hopefully.

never fly american airlines.

latest and greatest -- Creemy Beenie

this is my latest hat :) i actually made it a while ago but i ran out of the creamy colored yarn so i had to pick up stitches around the bottom to make it a dark brown edge. i made up the design myself, and i loooove the turquoise stripe. it's a pretty plain little beanie, just stockinette with a 2x2 rib at the bottom. i got the yarn from my grandma, who thinks its alpaca (it feels supersoft like alpaca). i'm debating whether or not to put a pon pom on it. what do you guys think?

my book arts final

for my book arts final, i made this book about Alice in Wonderland. it was in tunnel book format, which means that it is one scene that has many layers, making it 3D :) it was fun to make, and came out pretty good (at least, my book arts teacher thought it did!). i got the images from this site, which had some awesome old scans from the original book.

tradition

two days after my last final... i have risen from the depths of sleepiness and tiredness and have cheered up significantly since my exhausting semester ended with me being unable to even pronounce my own name. i am terribly behind in holiday shopping and hoping to find something in the shops today, my mother, marco and i ventured out into the wilderness of shops around my mom's house. this explains the following story:

it is holiday tradition to torture our dogs with making them wear clothes. they hate it, but we love it and can't help taking pictures :) my mom and i bought these funny hats for our respective dogs and here's me holding them in place so they won't rip the hats to pieces... don't worry, though, no dogs were really harmed in the making of this photo, they only had to wear the hats for the picture...

happy birthday, ma!

happy birthday mom! it was my mom's bday today and since my mom is more low-key than my grandma (who is a party animal) we had a breakfast party rather than an evening one. i was pretty tired from the night before 'cause i stayed up until 6am just trying to work on some finals stuff (this coming week is finals week; i have one class pretty much done, two to go), but i got a chance to knit and say hi to my family who i haven't seen since pretty much thanksgiving (which is a looooong time for me). in addition to her bought gift (a set of gourmet teas and tea holder dish thingees) i made her a cable hat and some fingerless gloves. sucks that i actually only got a crappy pic of them but i'm going to try to photograph them again some other time. here's a somewhat decent pic of her wearing the hat tho :)

yarn, yarn oh beautiful yarn!

on friday i received two beautiful balls of yarn from uruguay. hand painted, hand spun heavy worsted weight. they're GORGEOUS! the blue/brown ball is to continue on my clappy -- altho it's unfortunately another dye lot :( -- the other one is because i fell in love with the color. i plan on something special with this yarn. i don't know what, but something special... any great hat patterns out there? let me know!!! i got about 200 yards.

another pair of booties

i made another pair of booties (different pattern, same yarn) for my director. funny thing is he was like thanks, but he didn't realize i actually knitted them myself until i told him i had knitted the booties as a procrastination device to not do homework. he seemed rather shocked about the whole thing, which was kind of funny since i knit in class and sometimes he's talking straight to me but doesn't realize i'm knitting while i'm talking to him.

in other news, i'm actually in the homestretch of this current semester. i have but one more week left and then vacation! and then winter intersession, which isn't so bad, 'cause i take it online and i don't really have to leave the house. i couldn't resist joining a bunch of swaps having now mastered the ability to read and knit at the same time (so reading my lectures online will be a snap!) and am pretty booked for january. actually i might pull out of one of my swaps 'cause i'm just not super-into it -- i've made the decision that i will only do swaps i'm super interested in!

kitty hat # 48593

i'm getting A LOT of mileage out of the kitty hats i've been making... seems everyone wants one! i too love the kitty hat and made myself one once but it's not done and i can't seem to find it... hmmm... anyhow, this is another color combo i made for orange_sunset... AND i just made my third hello kitty hat, this third one was for michelle cooley, who i made one for before, but her best friend wanted one too, so she's giving it to her for xmas :)

oh happy day!

so i gave my "friend" the baby booties... i must confess that the friend in question is actually one of my teachers who is having a baby and jokingly asked for booties in class for his new baby-in-the-making, not thinking that i would actually make them. i just didn't want to give away the surprise just in case he was reading my blog (although i'm pretty sure he has NO time to do so) but ha! he knows nothing of my need to knit!!! so i made the afore posted booties, gave them to him today and he seemed so gratified, so absolutely grateful and touched by the whole thing... i think it's the first time someone really reacted so wonderfully to my knitting that it gave me a warm fuzzy feeling :) i so appreciated the reaction and was gratified myself :) oh happy day!

and the director of my department, also my teacher currently, has announced his own baby-in-the-works, so you know what that means...

oh the christmas list :)

a bunch of people have asked me for my christmas list... i feel so special! and to make it easier on everyone, i've made online bookmarks (tee-hee!) for the stuff i want. so here is my christmas list, for all interested parties!
