sigh

no motivation.

burnt out.

rusty, king of the reef

we went to the beach last weekend, both for a little couple outing and to take rusty to the one place he loves the most: the beach. he LOOOVES the beach! he got to run and play and even jumped in the water (nothing cuter than a little dog swimming). my gallery contains more pictures of his adventures.

needlefelt magic

this is my newest needlefelting creation. i've really been working at making cute stuff i would wear. this flower is my most very favorite thing i've made so far. it's about half the size of my palm and it's going to make an awesome pin.

Swiss Family LIES

when i was little, i saw the 1960 movie swiss family robinson (um obviously not in the theatres, but on VHS); i was entranced and in love with all the animals, the island, and the whole family. so as i was playing with the tivo last night, i found that it was going to play on tv today. i was delighted and excited, 'cause i didn't remember that much of it.

obviously i didn't remember it was all a pack of LIES. they are many lies, ennumerated as follows:
  1. they are on some tropical island, obviously somewhere near the south pacific. and somehow this one island in the middle of nowhere is the home of a monitor, a tiger, a baby elephant, sharks, monkeys, an ostrich. but how did they get there? and how do they sustain viable populations if they've always been there? (although they talk about a "land bridge to asia" theory but it still doesn't speak to sustainable populations).
  2. they have flamingoes there too. maybe the theory of a land bridge to asia might have been some sort of lame explanation, but as flamingoes are native to south america, northern europe, and africa, that explanation doesn't, erm, fly.
  3. baby elephants don't exist without a herd. a herd is very protective of their calves. where the hell did the baby elephant come from?
  4. when the men in the family are hauling the animals to the island from the shipwreck, they are attacked by sharks. they shoot the sharks, and scare them away. however, if you shoot a shark, it bleeds, then doesn't it follow that it attracts more sharks?
  5. the youngest son, francis, is, to me, an imperialist (and extremely annoying). he captures almost all the animals on the island and keeps them as his pets. yet the family was escaping napoleon, who they claimed was an imperialist himself. so shouldn't they teach their kid that animals belong in the wild, in their own place, rather than existing as his playthings?
  6. there's a scene where the older brothers find a zebra stuck in mud being stalked by hyenas (both from africa, not asia), and they free it and use it as a riding horse. hello? do they know how long it takes to saddle-break a horse? a wild zebra, therefore, must be notably harder to break.
so i've been disillusioned once again. walt disney, how could you?

self portrait tuesday... on wednesday... AGAIN

i just changed my avatar on craftster. now, that may not seem like a big deal to anyone, but in an online community (more like an online family) we all recognize each other by our avatars. they're like your face. when someone changes theirs, it's like your good friend joe coming up to you with a whole different face and you're like WOAH! WHO ARE YOU??? it's a strange sensation. there was a mass avatar change a while back and i was in school so i had no time to find another avatar. last night i was tooling around the potter puffs site, and found this pic of tonks, who happily has my shortness of hair. i'd like to think i kinda look like this, but sadly, my eyes don't take up 2/3 of my face.

some more swap stuff received by my partners

i made this for an ongoing swap and the person i sent it to loved it. i did too! i think i'm getting better at making these turtles :)

for the hoodie swap, my partner wanted a hoodie that could change motif if she wanted to, so i made her this hoodie with a pocket so that you can change the patch on the inside :) here are also some of the patches i sent her :)

what do you do when you're on spring break and you don't want to do your homework?

i was tagged by emmie to do this meme, and i shall indulge, as a procrastination device:

4 Jobs I wish I Had In My Lifetime:
  1. Writer
  2. Dolphin Trainer
  3. Dog Trainer
  4. Professional Billionaire
4 Movies I cannot watch Over and Over:
  1. Sleepless in Seattle. i just can't get into it. sorry.
  2. house of 1000 corpses. was painful to watch the first time, no need to go through it again.
  3. movies that in some way include paris hilton. except zoolander.
  4. the innocents. i saw this movie last weekend. it's supposed to be some great triumph of book to the screen by truman capote and some other guy. i can see how it might have been a great book, full of suspense. but the movie does nothing for me.
4 Tv Shows I hate To Watch:
  1. when i go to her house, sometimes my mom makes me watch interior decorating shows. yuck.
  2. the superbowl - yes, i dislike the superbowl. i love the commercials, though!
  3. NYPD Blue. TNT uses it as a filler between good shows like Law & Order
  4. Charmed. how frickin annoying.
4 Places You wish you could Live:
  1. London
  2. Hawaii
  3. Vancouver so i could hang with my pal emmie
  4. Positano
4 Places I’ve never Been To On Vacation:
  1. Canada. silly, as it is very close.
  2. New York.
  3. India
  4. Africa
4 Websites I visit daily... without fail:
  1. Craftster.org/forum
  2. yahoo
  3. mail @ yahoo
  4. mine :)
4 least Favorite types of yarn:
  1. BOUCLE
  2. Red Heart Cheap and Scratchy (Super Saver)
  3. walmart brand yarn, which essentially is just like red heart
  4. eyelash yarn (although i agree that it has its purposes, like making great cat toys. but not sweaters!)
4 Websites I’m Tagging:
  1. It's Your life
  2. Magic Fingers
  3. Squirrel's Worlds
  4. Pelotes, etc. (hee hee, my happy go-to for these things!)

i'm finally done with the clap!

clapotis, she is finit! and i'm glad of it. i really didn't like knitting the clappy, which is probably why i put it down for six months. i didn't like the endless stockinette; i didn't like the dropping of the stitches (except that they marked another repeat gone, which was good); and it sucked in a ton of yarn that i had to special order from overseas. i'm pretty sure i didn't do all the straight rows but don't know for sure because that's where i left off six months ago and didn't even mark it down. and you know what's more? i don't even wear wraps. what came over me to knit such a monster? i have NO idea. it has become my clapenstein!

oh well, i think i might use it as a portable blanky, or a really big scarf. the first picture is right side out, the second is wrong side out, and the last one is a detail shot of the stitching.

Hot Tomato

i made this for me just 'cause i wanted something to knit on the bus. i've always wanted a strawberry hat but i think the tomato is cuter and less work ;) in other knitty news, i've taken up my clappy again, and hope to add it to my FO's soon.

i've taken to making needlefelt things while watching law and order. this is one of my flowery creations, the purple & yellow pansy. More of my little creations here.

as for my selfportrait tuesday, i'm forgoing this week, as i have been very productive/creative in the craft part.

some swap stuff i made

a few of my swap partners have received today, so for you, my loving audience, i give you the bulk of my last two crafting weeks!

for sewpixie, who made me a hoodie in exchange. i made her then a one-skein wonder, a needle-felted pin, and a couple of mice for her kitties!

for bigmouth, i was to send some pins. i thought i'd add some jewelry to the mix; after making the kanzashi pin and the needle-felted cherry blossom, i made two more bracelets (and gave her a third modified one) and a ribbon necklace (actually there were two ribbon necklaces i gave her, i just had only made one of them).

the clap

years ago (alright, about five months ago), i started a clapotis. with some beautiful handspun, handpainted uruguayan yarn. about three months ago, i ran out of said yarn because for some reason the clap is a yarn black-hole -- it sucks yarn in. i put it down while i got more yarn which is obviously the wrong dye-lot, and i got it long before christmas. i still haven't picked it up again. and i do want to finish the darn thing. ugh, some motivation, please?

the tide turns

today i had a good omen: the bus agency called and they found my phone! it took them a couple of weeks, but that's amazing! i thought it was lost forever. not that i need it anymore 'cause i got a pretty decent phone now, but hey, i'm taking it as a good sign. and my problems at school seem to be on their way to being resolved... yay! i hope i don't jinx myself!

selfportrait tuesday... on wednesday. again.

for the last tuesday of the month of february, i post this picture. it's just goofy. it's not the bad type of picture i'm supposed to put up where i am putting all my flaws out for everyone to see. i'm just goofy.
