garden scarf

after a small hiatus in the needlework fields, i've risked carpal tunnel in order to finish up the happy hooker's garden scarf i had started before all this neuritis (that's what the doctor says is wrong with my wrist). i only have one coat left that fits me, my ruby colored maternity pea coat, and i decided to make a scarf to go with it so this is what i made for it, since i'm kinda crochet-crazy lately. i think the flowers are a bit floppy, though, and i'm considering blocking/starching them a bit since i used all natural fibers for this one.

since this scarfy delight, however, i've decided i want to jump on the entrelac bandwagon, and my next task will be knitty's danica. oh the entrelac goodness that awaits!!! i hope this doesn't mean they'll have to cut off my wrist!

peaches for 2007?

when we first started living here a couple of years ago, marco threw a peach pit (from a peach tree from my grandma's house) in a bucket of water, mainly, i think, to have it disintegrate in there and so that there might be some sort of nutrients in the water when he watered his other plants. but the little peach that could sprouted up, to our surprise and bemusement, and marco decided he would plant it. two and a half years later, we have a pretty good sized sappling that has leaves in the spring and now, this year, peach blossoms! could that mean we're getting peaches for 2007? unfortunately, i am allergic to fresh peaches (they make my mouth & throat itch) but it's kinda cool to think that 3 ft. tree came from just a little peach pit that we tossed away but refused to be tossed. :)

5 things for february

a bloggy friend of mine, heather, makes a list of five things every month and i'm stealing her idea since my creations are down to almost nothing (due to time constraints and wrist hurt) and i'm finally closing down the etsy shop (due to time constraints and wrist hurt). so here goes, 5 things:

  1. my belly button was always a deep innie but it's now starting to become more and more shallow due to my growing belly... is this a gross thing to share?
  2. i've discovered gorilla munch cereal from trader joe's... mmmm soooo goood if you like little sweet cornballs of goodness.
  3. we've lived in our city for 2 1/2 years and we have been meaning to go to this tapas/ spanish food restaurant that is literally across the street from us. last weekend it turned into an italian place.
  4. i'm starting to drink more and more tap water. i need the flouride.
  5. marco's company had a holiday party last saturday. why a holiday party in february? no idea. either way, it was probably the only time i will be wearing a cocktail dress my whole pregnancy long. here's a peek and a few photos we took.

one shrimp to rule them all

i made a bendy straw shrimp! i made a bendy straw shrimp! i was totally enamoured with a bendy straw shrimp that i saw on craftster and then someone posted a link to a quicktime tutorial on how to make them. i immediately bought bendy straws and here is my shrimp-o. it is a tribute to my friend katie who does this impression of the little shrimp in shark tales.

my little pony

so i've been having sort of bad days one after the other (first i was sick, then super busy, then tired, then just having weird little bad things happening, like losing my parking ticket when i parked at the parking structure near school). so i'm posting this silly phone picture of myself and the coolest invention ever. it's a toy horse called butterscotch (when i was little i was madly in love with a my little pony named butterscotch) that's about 3 feet tall. it's robotic and responds to the sound of your voice and responds to when you brush it and everything. i swear i was [thisclose] to buying it. however, $300 and a toy horse i have no space for was probably not the best idea for us, and since marco talked me out of it, i only have this picture to dream about a pony for myself (yes, i would let the baby play with it).
